Concert Summary – Passion and Peace – Kitchener/Toronto concerts
Here is a video featuring True North Brass with the Pax Christie Chorale
TNB had two very successful concerts with the Pax Christi Chorale over the past weekend. Members were Barton Woomert, Stuart Laughton, Alastair Kay, Joan Watson and Scott Irvine. We played two pieces of our own: Morning Song by Scott and Land of Spirits by Miklos Massey. After one concert a woman came to us in tears and said Morning Song was the most beautiful piece that she cried through the entire performance.

Wrap-up – TNB Masterclass in North Bay!
Paul Baker of North Bay approached us about giving a masterclass for local brass players while we were in town. This is a true passion for each member of TNB to participate in, so we were thrilled to be asked. I must say, a lot of planning, advertising and organizing went on to make this happen by Paul and Darren Denomme. Alison Denomme is the music director at Mother St. Bride School and also Principal Trumpet of the NBSO. What a team! Over 34 brass players arrived at 10:30 am Sunday morning to have some TNB fun. I led the proceedings with an intention for the class: To inspire and share ideas on effortless sound production. We chose to focus just on sound for our 2 hour class. It is impossible to cover too many topics and sound is the essential for anyone’s playing ease and enjoyment. Also, a great sound means you are breathing and supporting the air properly, it is the basis of great technique and the best vehicle for great music making. Every great player focuses on sound production first thing in the day.
Concert Summary – North Bay Symphony, March 1st, 2014
True North Brass has performed with quite a few orchestras over the years, so we were pleased when the North Bay Symphony asked us to join them for their March 1st 2014 concert. This past Fall,Scott and I reworked our orchestra arrangements a bit, and Jim McGrath re-orchestrated his lovely solo French Horn version of Fantasia on Two Newfoundland Songs to feature the full TNB. We sent the tweaked orchestra arrangements off to TNB founding member Ray Tizzard, who forwarded them up to North Bay sometime before Christmas.

True North Brass on Amherst Island
“The concert went very well given in a lovely old church that held about 150 people. We attracted guests from Kingston and area. The concert series is a hard-won, established series, driven in the first 20 years by Bev Harris’s husband. It now continues to thrive with Bev’s capable leadership and organizational powers.”
